Kelby Down & Dirty Tricks With Photoshop CS5, Friday 09172010 @ Northern Kentucky Convention Center.<\/h2>\n

Most of the class seems fairly basic, covering knowledge I and nearly anyone else using Photoshop on a regular basis would already know. There are however new elements, particularly for features unique to CS5 and obscure key shortcuts. Following are general notes taken during seminar.<\/p>\n

Adobe Photoshop<\/h2>\n

General<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. Alt Drag to scale all points.<\/li>\n
  2. Alt Shift Drag to scale all points with constrained proportions.<\/li>\n
  3. Stylize->Find Edges = Line Art<\/li>\n
  4. Ctl+i, toggle background black\/white.<\/li>\n
  5. Ctl + click new layer. New layer appears below current.<\/li>\n
  6. Drag background over trashcan to unlock.<\/li>\n
  7. Shift Ctl J cuts selection to new layer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Puppet Warp<\/h4>\n
      \n
    1. Works like Pen Tool (add points and drag).<\/li>\n
    2. Puppet warp may be applied as a smart filter (always should be!), warp cannot.<\/li>\n
    3. Only works on contiguous objects.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Layer Masking<\/h3>\n

      Black = Color hidden
      \nWhite = Color 100%
      \nShift + Delete = Fill<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Hold Alt to constrain proportions.<\/li>\n
      2. Use Ctl. 0<\/li>\n
      3. Layer mask – Mask layer without modifying layer<\/li>\n
      4. Hold Alt and click layer mask to place mask in main window.<\/li>\n
      5. Hold shift and lick on mask to disable.<\/li>\n
      6. Unlinked allows mask & layer to move independently<\/li>\n
      7. Adjustment layer; mess with colors without messing with layers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Blending<\/h3>\n
          \n
        1. Shift\u00a0 +\/- changes blend mode of a layer.<\/li>\n
        2. Alt & Drag to move half of a split slider.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Selections<\/h3>\n
            \n
          1. Start with general selection.<\/li>\n
          2. Select refine edge.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            Clipping Mask<\/h3>\n
              \n
            1. Alt + Click between layers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              Mask from image:<\/p>\n

              Text<\/h3>\n

              Basic<\/h4>\n
                \n
              1. Dash, Alt Dash, Shift Alt Dash<\/li>\n
              2. Shift alt 5 to merge font<\/li>\n
              3. Pro fonts are \u201csmart\u201d; auto merging.<\/li>\n
              4. Superscript for @,Copyright, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                Path<\/h4>\n
                  \n
                1. Pen, hold Shift to add points (same as Dreamweaver Polygons).<\/li>\n
                2. Angle for curves.<\/li>\n
                3. Text can then be added to stay in or on path.<\/li>\n
                4. Drag finished text on path to far side to place text on inside of path.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                  Pen Tool<\/h4>\n
                    \n
                  1. Move pen over path, click to add control point. Click on previous control point to remove.<\/li>\n
                  2. Old Alt and drag to move only one side of curve.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                    Advanced<\/h4>\n
                      \n
                    1. Create path. Initializes vector from ext layer.<\/li>\n
                    2. Hold shift to deselect all points of vector object.<\/li>\n
                    3. Texture can be dragged while active.<\/li>\n
                    4. Alt drag FX icon to another layer – copies all effects.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                      3D Text<\/h4>\n
                        \n
                      1. 3d->Repousse’<\/li>\n
                      2. Internal constraints feature; holes, shape removal.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                        Smart Objects<\/h4>\n
                          \n
                        1. Manipulation (re-size) without re sample.<\/li>\n
                        2. Smart objects are linked. Changes in any smart object are reflected in all duplicated copies.<\/li>\n
                        3. Right click on smart object->Duplicate using new smart object; creates unlinked smart object.<\/li>\n
                        4. Filters added to smart object are recorded and can be adjusted\/removed.<\/li>\n
                        5. Choose any smart object->right click->replace image. Image in all smart objects are replaced and maintain all adjustments.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                          Define Brush<\/h4>\n
                            \n
                          1. Select area\/image, then define. Adds to brushes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                            Content Removal<\/h4>\n
                              \n
                            1. Select area.<\/li>\n
                            2. Open Fill dialog (Shift+Backpace).<\/li>\n
                            3. Use->Content aware.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                              Adobe Illustrator<\/h2>\n

                              Preset Art<\/h3>\n
                                \n
                              1. Window->Symbol->Dot Vector Pack<\/li>\n
                              2. Illustrator to PS:\u00a0 Copy from illustrator, select Shape, define custom shape. Shape now lives in Photoshop for later use.<\/li>\n
                              3. Paste from illustrator as Smart object, you can then edit in Illustrator by DB clicking layer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
